Job Code405007 Financial Professional (N)Job-Specific ResponsibilitiesThe Research Portfolio Manager (RPM) is responsible for providingcomprehensive pre-and post-award support to Principal Investigators(PIs), postdoctoral fellows, and students of the Department ofMolecular and Cellular Biology (MCB). This position will report toAssistant Director for Research Administration. This positionrequires independent judgment and problem solving skills to ensurecompliance with sponsor and donor regulations, school andUniversity policies, and department procedures. The RPM providessuperior customer service to PIs and their lab members in supportof research activities in a high volume, fast paced, and dynamicenvironment.Pre-award responsibilities:Provide direct support to PIs and their lab members withproposal preparation, including budget development, assembly ofsupporting documentation and required institutionalinformation.Advise and assist Principal Investigator (PI) with sponsorpolicies and programmatic reporting requirements of the variousfunding organizations, including progress reports.Shepherd supported proposals through the school and Universityproposal review and submission process.Facilitate award setup with the Office for SponsoredPrograms.Schedule non-financial reports in the Grants ManagementApplication Suite (GMAS).Ensure compliance with federal regulations and University,school and sponsor policies.Notify PIs of granting opportunities, providing information andapplication forms as necessary.Analyze and report sponsored funding trends. Post-award responsibilities:Manage designated funding (sponsored and non-sponsored funds)for the PIs and their lab members. This includes complex financialmanagement and analysis; compliance with University policy andsponsor’s terms and conditions, and reporting.Conduct monthly detailed financial analysis of portfolios andprovide individual consulting to PIs.Strategize with PIs on resource and personnel allocations.Monitor balances, reconcile, perform spending projections, andaddress ad hoc queries.Proactively establish relationships with PIs, LabAdministrators, and lab members; maintain effective communication;and protect confidential information.Work closely with the PI and Office for Sponsored Programs, toreview new awards, set up budgets, and provide guidance onpolicy.Review and approve financial transactions, such asreimbursements for travel and corporate card payments, PCards, andBuy to Pay.Facilitate the effort certification process and advise the PIon related policies.Provide guidance to lab administrators on finance and sponsoredresearch matters including systems, policies, and procedures. Basic Qualifications5 or more years of related sponsored research administrationexperience or bachelor’s degree with 3 or more years ofexperience.
