Thisincludes working closely with Discipline Management, Scientists,and other project partners to provide financial and budget data,track costs, make corrections as needed, and advise on financialmatters.Perform work of varied and considerable difficulty requiringsophisticated data collection, analysis, reconciliation, andcompiling and writing reports. Apply knowledge of accountingprinciples, auditing standards, budgeting principles, publicadministration, and/or legal and regulatory compliance.Manage financial tools vital to support sponsored projectactivity (e.g., detail of financial transactions, accountmaintenance, travel expense review, year-end accruals).Assist withthe fiscal year-end closing process.Assist with the preparation of service center ratecalculations.Assist with the annual LASP budget process to ensure datacollection and inputs are accurate and reflect the controlsestablished by the Executive Associate Director (EAD).Produce monthly financial reports for LASP internal budgetgroups (e.g., LASP Faculty Start-up Funding, internal research anddevelopment owners, LASP’s proposal support funding).Provide services to LASP personnel on the identification andinvestigation of current accounting issues; the development ofaccounting methods and business processes; the implementation ofaccounting-related projects; and the facilitation of accountingopportunities and solutions.Develop, interpret, and/or evaluate compliance with establishedpolicies and procedures.May impact policy and budget decisions at the department andlab levels.Work independently or as a team member within existingguidelines and policies.Provide peer assistance in specialty areas or serves as aleader for a team or small work unit.May conduct special financial and business-related studies andcooperates with other departments in the preparation ofanalyses.Proactively seek opportunities for professional development andtraining for self/unit and develop new skills.Other duties as assigned to facilitate financial continuity atLASP. Duties include research,selection, and compilation of financial data from multiple sources,such as; production, accounting, vendors, and subsequent analysisof that data to produce business information used to supportdecisions. Data are often difficult to acquire and may be dilutedwith unnecessary data points. Identify questionable data and maythen direct others in verifying the accuracy of data. Provide andpresent an executive summary of data results in a simplifiedunderstandable outline. Provides work leadership and direction toother professional and clerical staff with respect to projectapproach and identification of project tasks. Decisions may impactthe effectiveness and efficiency of administrative and businessprocesses.The Senior Accountant position exists to provide accountingexpertise, internal controls, guidance, and interpretation of CU’sfiscal policies and procedures. This position is assignedaccounting and administrative responsibilities for one or moreareas.
