Everton BLOW as defender suffers fresh injury setback

first_imgBryan Oviedo will not play again for Everton this season after suffering a fresh injury setback. The Costa Rican defender, who has been sidelined since February due to a hamstring tear, had been closing in on a first-team return. But he is now set for another spell in the treatment room after breaking the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a training session.Speaking at his Thursday morning press conference, Everton boss Roberto Martinez said: “We had a really disappointing situation with Bryan Oviedo in training. He has fractured his fifth metatarsal, which is incredible bad luck.“He was in a great moment of form and looking forward to getting back into the squad and finishing the season playing.“It was a very unfortunate action on his own and he is going to be out for the rest of the season. He was trying to get on the ball and his ankle rolled in a very awkward position.”It is the latest blow to hit Oviedo’s Goodison Park career. The 25-year-old spent eight months on the sidelines after suffering a double fracture of his leg at Stevenage in January 2014 and missed the World Cup.Having returned to action in September, he managed just 11 appearances before being hit with a hamstring problem. His latest injury setback means he will play no part for Everton the remainder of the campaign, while he will also miss the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer. 1 Bryan Oviedo last_img
